A Guys Guide to Handmade Paper Roses
( a Tutorial for Men )
This tutorial is for the guys that have seen the light and realized the ladies in their lives value other things than they do such as little unexpected romantic gestures and what could be more romantic or unexpected than a handcrafted rose on valentines day possibly bearing a note that reads "The day every last petal falls off this flower will be the day I stop loving you."
Equipment list
Exacto/box/stanley knife
Small scissors
Very narrow screw driver/kebab skewer/cocktail stick
Larger screw driver
Wire snips
Hot glue gun
White or school glue
Wire coat hanger
Cutting board or 8in ceramic tile.
tape measure or ruler
In addition you will also need a piece of green paper about the size of a post it note or an extra piece of white paper, and green paint, or a green pencil or
marker or even a crayon will do.
5}Cut a ¼ in square of paper from the side of the pattern sheet , cut the pointed ends from the rolled tear drops so they now form a tiny column, put a dab of glue on one end of the column and stick it to the ¼ in square
1} First cut out daisy shape from pattern sheet, cut 3 tear drop shapes
from daisy
2} With the narrow screw driver or kebab skewer roll a tear drop around
the shaft of the screw driver to form a narrow tube image 3
3} Roll two slightly looser/larger tubes from the tear drop shapes
4} Wrap the larger two around the first this portion forms the center of the rose.
6}Cut out several heart shapes, when cutting out the top of the heart shape cut a curved indent rather than a severe v cut, the rounder shape gives the heart a better rose petal look.
7} roll the two top curves of the petals in opposite directions from each other one to the front the other to the back along the shaft of screw driver or skewer
8} Add a few curved heart shape petals to your column until you have formed the size rose you desire, the more petals you add the fuller the rose will appear
9} Wrap your petals around opposite sides of the central column until it becomes too wide for just two then start adding four petals at a time
10} Making sure you always wrap the curved sides tightly around the column if you wish to create a rose bud effect. Continue until you have reached your desired size then go to step 15
11}If you want to create a more open rose similar to the one I made Cut some heart shapes from the pattern. Cut the point of the heart up to about a third of the petals height, slide one cut tail piece across the other forming a shallow dish shape with the bowl facing towards the column of the rose, glue the tip of the heart to the base of the column
12}Turn the sides of the petals across your screw driver in an outer facing direction as in the second image (12) above, but only very slightly the image above is exaggerated so you can see what I mean.
13}The very top of the petal turn one side towards you the other away just very slightly to take the straightness off the paper
