This  is part 3 of the St Patricks Day Trio of tutorials it is a little gift box  in which you may present the St Patricks day Shamrock bouquet brooch or if you didn't do that tutorial any other small item you may wish to gift. I t is created mainly from blue bin items. This tutorial is easily adapted for any ocassion just change the patterned print you cover it with.
St Patrick's Day Gift Box Tutorial
Supply list
A st Patricks Day themed pattern print, if you don't have one  I have included one with the download for the St Patrick's Day  gift box tutorial.rtf

Apart from that a couple of card board boxes from your blue bin
A plastic aerosol top from blue bin (originally from Bug spray/hair spray/Cooking oil spray etc)

Scissors
white glue
Laundry pegs
left over print pieces from shamrock print pattern page or decorations of your choosing
You need to print out a couple of pattern sheets if your very waste conscious you may get away with just one sheet if you don't make any mistakes.

Sorry if next step is rather long winded but as not all aerosol tops are exactly the same size I can not give you specific measurements just tell you how to cut pattern pieces for yours

To start with you need to measure the height of your lid in my case mine was 5.5 cm tall and 24 cm around its circumference , you then need to decide  how deep you want your lid to be I decided on 1.5 cm.

Obviously the lid for your tub has to be slightly wider than your base for it to fit, so measure the diameter of your base mine was 7cm  so lets add 0.5 cm for ease,  so cut a circle from some scrap blue bin boxes with the diameter of your base plus 0.5 cm. either that or just turn the aerosol lid so solid side faces up  and draw around it (don't be fooled sometimes top is ever so slightly bigger than bottom  even though they look the same) then extend this circle by marking several  points outside the circle by 2mm in all directions  and redraw the circle through these points, the best way is to use a compass and a pencil (but sometimes the kids leave this in their locker at school) cut 3 or four circles this size for top of lid

Now we need the lid sides, add 5 cm to the circumference of your tub or add five cm to the pattern piece you measured for covering the sides of the tub at this stage it does not need to be exact but once you have cut it measure and cut it more precisely. Cut 1 piece 1.5 cm wide x circumference + 5 cm out of scrap card

On the pattern print sheet mark out a strip circumference? + 5 cm long x 4.5 cm wide (3x the width of your lid depth we want to be able to completely cover the cardboard strip.  Lets recap:-

From card
We need several circles the diameter of the top of your plastic tub plus 0.5 cm

1 circle 1cm bigger than the cardboard circles you just cut for the top
(This does not have to be precise as you are going to fringe this piece but you must ensure if you cut it free hand to make certain you have at least a one cm over lap on all sides.)

1 strip of card 1.5 cm wide x the circumference of the top of your plastic container plus 1 cm overlap for glue

From Patterned Print
1 strip 4.5 cm wide x the circumference of the top of your plastic container plus 1 cm overlap for glue
1 piece the height of container plus 1cm wide x circumference plus 2 cm long (for overlap)

1 circle the size of the base of your plastic tub one circle the size of the top of plastic tub

1 circle 1cm bigger than the cardboard circles you cut for the top
(This does not have to be precise as you are going to fringe this piece but you must ensure if you cut it free hand to make certain you have at least a one cm over lap on all sides.)

Fringe larger lid circle into original circumference of lid then score and fold up fringe  to 90% angle
In its center stack and glue a couple of cardboard circles

So to cover the base of the box you will need to draw out your pattern pieces for mine I needed one strip  5.5 cm x 24 cm long  but to allow for over laps and gluing space we need to to increase dimensions  to 6.5 cm x26 cm long.
Take the strip that you cut for the box lid and lay in the center of the printed pattern piece that should be 3 times its width ,fold both sides so they cover the card strip one laying over the top of the other , being careful of fold line marks, open up patterned paper , add glue to both sides of card strip and replace leaving one portion of paper extended and unglued.
Take the fringed circle making sure fringe is as upright as possible, and cover fringe with glue on both sides , take the card board stip you have partially covered with patterned paper , re fold last fold and work upright fringe into the gap, maintaining the circular shape as you work round the circle, here you might benefit from using some pegs to hold the shape as you work see picture. When rim is complete you can use pegs as a stand until glue dries completely.
